Ever since I watched Beauty And The Beast as an impressionable little girl, I’ve always wanted a grand library in my home.

This would fit the bill, I think.
Enough time has passed such that I am now craving a good book or two to distract me from my own thoughts. I can’t wait to receive these I ordered recently, but in reality even if they were in my hands I should try to hold off till we go to Phuket and Bangkok in December to devour them.

I am absolutely enamored by La Chance, a French furniture brand whose founders couldn’t agree if they wanted the brand to represent muted palettes or pops of color, and so decided to do both.
Each furniture item they design comes in two versions – Jekyll (bright colors, super-fun), and Hyde (muted, neutral, sexy).
Isn’t that genius?! I love the idea of two facets to one item, and having the option to choose either – or both! – to suit your mood.
I also love that the forms themselves – so visually arresting and geometric; I could look at them all day. So much fun :)

It’s been quite a search for a good home fragrance.
We’ve tried Yankee candles, but the two scents we got (Fluffy Towels and Island Spa) were a little too perfumey for my liking. We got the little jars with lids, and they’re really cute and handy for bringing around though.

Charmed by the great service in Penhaligon’s, we also bought a Quercus candle on impulse. (Ouch.) Unfortunately by the time we went home and unwrapped the candle I was certain we’d made a poor choice – it smelt so much like those cheap men’s colognes. So we haven’t lit it yet, hopefully it would be better when lit.

Yesterday, while out shopping for furniture, Grafunkt was selling these Compagnie de Provence diffusers. I’d seen the hand soaps from this brand before, but not the diffusers. The Incense Lavender was powdery and woody, yet gentle – so it came home with me. :-)

How about you? Do you scent your home, or do home scents give you a headache?
p.s. Have a lovely week ahead my dears!
This brings back memories of New Year’s Eve 2011 / 2012, when we ventured 1 hour out of central Hanoi to buy the Superheroes collection stool from the manufacturer’s store (before it was relaunched as a Cappellini product, and the price presumably swelled by quite a bit :-)).

We have the stubby orange-and-pink stool, and now I almost wish we bought all of them, they’re so lovely to look at!

As we move into 2012, the new place is excitingly becoming more and more of a reality. Tiling work’s complete; to come are cabinetry, lighting points, built-in appliances and fixtures (e.g. toilet, sink, cooker).
We’re trying to make furniture-shopping an ongoing thing just so we find the right item fit for our needs – lately I’ve been thinking of my dresser.
I’ll need it to hold a whole bunch of skincare / toiletry products, makeup, and also my beloved jewelry (my babies!).
This dresser is so gorgeous with the vintage tile, made modern with acrylic shelving and a cute little jewelry rack.

I’m very persnickety about jewelry storage – has to be in a lined drawer with compartments or they oxidise / get tangled together etc. So this Samantha Wills jewelry chest is really calling my name…
Note to self : fresh flowers in the walk-in wardrobe would make dressing up feel twice as fun :-)

Hello! Woke up grumpy this morning, so finding these brown tones very comforting…

What did you do over the long weekend my dears? Did you have a good, restful weekend?
I unfortunately came down with something on Friday – had a fever and headache that burgeoned into a slight cold over Saturday and Sunday. Funny how it tends to happen when you start to relax after a stressful period.
We did manage to squeeze in some rug-hunting at Arab Street on Saturday. And forgive me for sounding naive, but who knew nice rugs could cost so much! In the thousands for a handwoven, multi-knot Middle Eastern rug. I mean I know it’s a lot of effort… but I wonder how much it’d cost if we went direct to Turkey. Meh.
In the meantime, we’ll be browsing at Ikea, thank you very much :-)

Random snippets of my month -
Waiting to board at HKIA, nestled in a quiet forsaken corner of the Starbucks near the gates. (All that bustle and activity – the opposite of what I was feeling then at 7 in the morning.)
Organic lemonade – mmm tasty. M kept the bottle for flowers in our new home :-)
What I wore to Yixiao’s wedding dinner at Shangri-La. (That black squarish thing in my hand is actually my opened clutch, in case you were wondering hehe)
At Rita’s wedding – I’m wearing the same dress because Yixiao’s wedding spanned 2 days, of which 1 overlapped with Rita’s wedding dinner! I rushed over after Yixiao’s solemnisation in time to catch the end of dinner (and the tomfoolery following :-)).
Queuing to get our flat!
They called our number!
M showing his excitement
Our keys came in a faux-leather case, complete with HDB embossed logo!
On the way up to see the place.
Our living room.
The view out.
Unfinished floors.
The exercise area, work in progress for the moment.
Some tiles we’re considering for one of the bathrooms, to use as a border.
And these mosaic black and white’s will be the floor in the other bathroom.
Options galore!
